COURSE
UPDATE TUESDAY 9TH MARCH
Hello
there Members, Ladies and
Gents
I
thought it would be appropriate to give everyone
an update of the condition of the course and the
remedial work that is currently being undertaken
by our staff.
We
received in excess of 250mm of rain on the course
from Sunday the 28th of Feb to last
Friday. This is in addition to the rain we
received over the previous weeks. Unfortunately
any rain we are or are going to receive over the
next few weeks will sit on the top of the ground
as the course is draining very slowly at this
point in time.
Last
week
the staff could only mow the greens as the rest of
the course was inaccessible for any machinery. Yesterday
the staff were able to mow the tees and commence
mowing the surrounds of the greens on the front
nine. The back right and back of the forth green
was and is not able to be mown at this stage
because it is too wet for the mowers to operate
safely. This will be the case on some of the other
greens on course as the staff get to these areas.
The staff are continuing to mow the greens
surrounds where possible on the middle and third
nine today. Selected fairways or fairways that are
not waterlogged are also being targeted for mowing
today and the rest of the week. We expect to be
able to perform a one cut only on about 60% of our
fairways by the end of today.
Whilst
currently concentrating on the fairways we have
been unable to mow any of the rough areas to date.
We expect to be able to commence this later in the
week, weather permitting.
Unfortunately
the bunkers will be out of play for at least
another week. The good news is that the rebuilt
bunkers on the 1st, 4th,
8th and the 14th could be
currently in play and the other good news is that
the drainage in the partially completed bunkers on
the 5th, 9th and the
11th holes all drained well during the
rain.
The
bridge on the 2nd hole was partially
washed away but is passable. The new road base
path we recently laid on the 7th has
been partially washed away but is trafficable.
There is a large log deposited, by flood water, in
the gully in front of the ladies 7th
tee. We may not have the time to remove this by
tomorrow. The access to the bridge at the back of
the 8th green has been damaged and
needs to be repaired before carts may regain
access. The access to the bridge on the
11th has been damaged but is
trafficable. More erosion has occurred on the
right hand side of the bridge on the 20th hole
although not as bad as occurred
previously.
The
flat areas of the 14th and
15th fairway, as most would be aware,
is currently very waterlogged. The flat area of
the18th although it is wet, and the
19th fairway are draining much better
now that the drainage in these areas has been
reworked.
Where
are we at currently with playing golf?
Although
there are no buggies on course, the ladies played
this morning.
It
is anticipated that there will be no buggies
allowed on the course until at least the
weekend.
The
bunkers will be out of play until next
week.
Tomorrows
Competition for the men and Thursday for the
Ladies
At
this stage there will be no motorised buggies
permitted, one club length preferred lie, and
compulsory tee-up through the green and bunkers
will be out of play.
You
can all see that I haven't got a degree in
journalism but I will do my best to keep everyone
as informed as possible until we get back to
normality.

Leo

GREENS
RENOVATIONS
As Members are probably aware,
the greens renovations were due to be undertaken
from the 1st to the 3rd of
February. The renovations were scheduled at this
time to accommodate the intended over sow of the
greens.
It is the belief of the Course Sub
Committee that the greens are healthy and in
premium condition and do not believe the over sow
is required. To support this theory, soil tests
were undertaken on greens from each nine by the
Nuturf Company, with the following result
emanating:-
“All greens are in excellent
nutrient balance. The current program in place is
maintaining these levels and providing maximum
nutrient availability to the
plant.”
By not over sowing, the renovations
can be deferred until the third week of March,
allowing Members to enjoy them, in premium
condition for as long as possible.
There is a “safeguard” in that we
will have the grass from the new greens nursery
available for use / transplanting onto the course
greens close to the end of the winter. Any damage
which is caused to the greens during the winter
months will be able to be repaired by utilising
the grass from the new nursery.
