2026 at Keperra

Happy New Year to all our members and friends of Keperra Country Golf Club.

We hope you’ve enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas break with family and friends and are feeling refreshed for another exciting year at the Club.

Works on the lower clubhouse refurbishment will resume in early January. This significant project will deliver a revitalised lower-level space, including an expanded golf shop, a café-style offering, improved amenities, and new outdoor areas to enhance the overall member experience. Subject to final progress and commissioning, we anticipate the new space opening in February.

Around the same time, the new greens on holes 7 and 8 are expected to reopen, returning the course to its usual configuration. The Course team is thrilled with the progress on both greens and very pleased with how they are tracking.

Early in the new year, the Club will also take delivery of its new golf cart fleet, which again will include GPS functionality and a range of technology upgrades designed to improve the on-course experience for members and guests. The supply contract is currently being finalised, with delivery expected in the first part of the year. A “shiny new” cart fleet will further complement the many other improvements planned for delivery throughout 2026. In addition, we are currently finalising plans to rebuild and refurbish several tee blocks across the course.

The year ahead promises to be another busy and exciting one, with Club Championships and the Keperra Bowl scheduled for March. The Women’s Pennant season is also set to commence in April, and we hold high hopes for both our midweek and weekend teams as they prepare for the year ahead. We would also like to again sincerely thank our long-term Club Pennant sponsor, Phil Wuersching, from Jim’s Test and Tag, for his continued support of our pennant programs.

Membership demand remains strong. All categories with 7-day playing rights are now closed, and we are already seeing the waiting list grow. In line with the Club’s strategic objectives, we continue to accept membership applications from women and girls across all categories and are waiving the joining fee, which normally ranges from $1,000 to $2,000. There has never been a better time to join Keperra, and we encourage members to share this opportunity with the women and girls in their lives.

Applications remain open for 5-day membership, and a new social-play-only offering for juniors and intermediates has been introduced, which is already proving incredibly popular.

The Club’s Strategic Plan will be reviewed later this year and will include a comprehensive member survey to ensure members have a strong voice in shaping the Club’s future direction. In addition, work which commenced last year on the Constitution review will continue. This review is an important step in ensuring the Club remains progressive, contemporary and well-positioned to meet the needs of both current and future members.

As part of this process, the Board will also consider a number of important governance and “housekeeping” improvements, with the most significant being the potential introduction of electronic voting. This initiative aims to improve accessibility, participation, and engagement in Club decision-making processes. Members will be kept informed as this work progresses and consulted where required.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the new year and, before too long, enjoying a coffee, a cold drink, or something to eat in the new outdoor area, which will soon become a favourite place to gather before or after a round of golf.

We wish you a happy, healthy and successful year ahead at Keperra Country Golf Club.

Special week for KCGC at the 2025 Aus Open

The 2025 Australian Open delivered a cracking week of golf, big crowds, big names, and plenty of excitement, and for the Keperra family, it was one to be proud of.

It was fantastic to see our own John Senden make the cut in what turned out to be a very strong and demanding field. In a tournament stacked with world-class talent, John’s effort to play his way into the weekend was a real credit to his professionalism and competitiveness. With John indicating this was likely his final Australian Open, the achievement became even more meaningful.

The atmosphere all week was exceptional, thanks to Rory McIlroy's return to the Australian Open after a long absence. Australian fans would have loved to see a home winner, and while Cam Smith narrowly missed out, his runner-up performance was outstanding and showed just how good he is.

John faced early tee times on both Saturday and Sunday, but that didn’t stop him from producing some great moments. It was also terrific that Keperra’s General Manager was on site to capture a number of John’s highlights and special memories from what could well be a closing chapter in his Australian Open journey.

There was also a lovely piece of Keperra right there on the greens at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. John proudly chose to use his Keperra marker throughout the tournament, a small but meaningful touch, and a great reminder of where it all started.

Adding further to the Keperra story was Brian Nilsson (LHS Photo below - far right), who found himself in the winner’s circle as caddie to the champion, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen. A proud Keperra member, despite spending little time in Australia, Brian is a highly credentialed world-tour caddie who has worked with several high-profile players over the years, including John as well as Nicolas Colsaerts for over a decade.  After his player missed the cut at the Australian PGA at Royal Qld, Brian was quick to say he felt Melbourne would suit him perfectly, and he was spot on.

What made the whole period even better was seeing Cam Smith visit Keperra in the weeks following the Open to play a round with two of our rising stars. It was fantastic to see and says a lot about the person he is.

From John Senden’s grit to Cam Smith’s class, Rory McIlroy’s presence, Brian Nilsson’s success on the bag, and even a Keperra marker on the greens, the 2025 Australian Open was a special week, one that again highlighted Keperra’s proud and long-held connection to the very top level of golf.

November Hailstorm - Club & Course impact

In late November, Keperra Country Golf Club was hit by a sudden, severe hailstorm that caused significant damage across the property.

The storm's intensity caused numerous broken roof tiles and damage to solar panels. Most notably, water ingress occurred on the upper level of the clubhouse, resulting in flooding and internal damage.

Regrettably, some stored memorabilia associated with recent renovations on the upper level was water-damaged during the event. While this was disappointing, efforts to assess, restore, and appropriately manage these items are well advanced.

The hail also caused significant indentations across the putting greens. Credit goes to the course team for their swift and professional response, with immediate remedial actions implemented to limit long-term impact on the putting surfaces and overall course presentation.

An insurance claim has been lodged; however, with an excess of $35,000, this is clearly not an ideal scenario. Notwithstanding this, management is working closely with insurers and specialist trades to expedite assessments and rectification while minimising disruption to club operations.

2026 Keperra Bowl - March 23-27

2026 will mark the second year in which the Keperra Bowl is played in March. Last year’s event attracted an exceptionally strong field, with a deeper talent pool competing in the WAGR and Golf Australia–sanctioned event.

Members may recognise names such as Justice Bosio, Elvis Smylie, Billy Dowling, Anthony Quayle, Daniel Gale, and last year’s winners, Chase Oberle and Molly McLean — all of whom have claimed victory at the Keperra Bowl and gone on to achieve greater success on both the national and international golfing circuits.

As always, the Club is seeking volunteers to help with the smooth running of the event. Members who are interested in contributing their time for a day or two are encouraged to email the Club at admin@keperragolf.com.au, specifying their preferred dates.

For those members unfamiliar with The Bowl, it provides the club with an excellent opportunity to showcase the course, the overall facilities of the club and importantly the welcoming culture that Keperra possesses. The Board would like to thank all members for their support of the tournament and the facility access sacrifices that are made throughout the 5 days of the event.

Play will still be available over 9 holes for the full duration of the event. All Clubhouse access and general member services will remain unchanged throughout the week of the tournament.

The Club has also receives requests for billeting from players participating in the Championships.  Any members willing and prepared to assist with Billeting (which is very much appreciated) is encouraged to contact the Club via admin@keperragolf.com.au
