Ladies Championships

Saturday the 6th of May saw the conclusion of this year's Keperra Ladies Club Championships. After 36 holes, last year's champion, Mikayla Dyal, was well on her way to defending her title. With rounds of 74 and 73 giving Mikayla a 22 stroke advantage her nearest rival.

A final round of 74 saw Mikayla cruise to a 30 shot victory and a 3 round total of 221, once again making her the Keperra Ladies Club Champion. In addition to winning the Club Championship, Mikayla also successfully defended her Keperra Junior Girls title.

Runner-up for this year was Julie Lakotij with a 3 round total of 251.

In the Nett events Sandy Allan took out the overall nett with Alison Terrey coming in as runner-up.

The Club once again wishes to acknowledge the continued support of long time Club Championship Sponsor, Jeff McConaghy Jewellers.

Congratulations to all our winners. Full results available on the Member homepage.

practice fairway - opening

We are pleased to share that the practice fairway will reopen as of 7:00am Friday June 9th.   It is important to note that the primary use of the area remains unchanged. This meaning that it is a Practice Fairway which as previously will involve players hitting balls exclusively from the designated hitting area at the far end to the fairway (near 27th hole) and balls travelling in the direction of the clubhouse.

Although additional safety measures have been added, mainly the net at the clubhouse end of the fairway, golf balls are not to be hit beyond the "new" yellow post that will signify the end of the fairway, (which will be short of the new 28th Green).  This green's use, in the main, will be limited to those using the practice bunker and for close range chipping with up to a maximum of 6 balls.

The new & improved short course will primarily be used by junior and new starter golfers and periodically made available for general use.

At all times, the Club Teaching Professionals have Practice fairway right of use, which is again an unchanged policy.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all users, it is imperative that the practice fairway rules of use are followed.

Gents A/B/C Grade Matchplay championsihps

Saturday the 27th of May saw the culmination of the Gents A, B & C Grade Matchplay Championships.

In the A Grade Final, current Club Champion, Wesley Hinton, was looking to defend the title he claimed last year when he took on 6 time Matchplay Champion, Ashley Grosvenor.

After a tight tussle throughout, Wes was eventually able to edge ahead down the stretch wrapping things up on the 17th with a 3 & 1 victory, allowing Wes to complete the double.

The B Grade Final had current B Grade Club Champion, Ci Gee, going up against 10th seed Peter Loiterton. Ci Gee continued his impressive form and despite Peter's best efforts came away with a 5 & 4 victory to also complete the Strokeplay, Matchplay double.

C Grade would see its current stroke play champion in Jackson Grady, taking on Luke Murphy for the Matchplay title. This match was also a close-run thing but on the 17th hole Jackson was able to secure a 2 & 1 victory making it a hattrick for all 3 grades of the Stoke play Champion being able to add the Matchplay title to their resumes.

Congratulations to all our winners.

Course Care

As the colder temperatures are now well and truly upon us, the Club would ask that Members take a little extra time while repairing their pitch marks on greens and divots in fairways to repair 1-2 additional marks/divots as the slower rate of repair is an unfortunate consequence of the low temperatures.

LADIES PENNANTS

Two teams are competing at present, Silver Weekend and Sapphire Zone 1 Midweek.

Silver has had one win and two losses, with two games to go.

Sapphire has had two wins, one tie and one loss, with two games to go.

New format this year with each team having 7 members, Silver having a maximum GA of 20 with the first three players off the stick, the remaining four full handicap difference.

Sapphire Zone 1 has full handicap difference for all players with a maximum GA up to 32.  There is also a requirement to have an aggregate GA for each team of no less than 100.  This is to encourage ladies who have not played pennants before to have a go.

Keperra Juniors

As mentioned back in March, several of the Club's Juniors had been selected to compete in the Qld Schools Championships at Palmer Coolum Resort, on the Sunshine Coast.

Wes Hinton, Jack Jones and Caitlin Vanderkruk were representing the Metropolitan North Region in the 13-18 division while Leo Brumm (Met. North) and Cassandre Geens (Met. East - pictured below) were competing the 10-12 division.

Wes Hinton continued his impressive form by finishing 2 under for the 4 rounds to finish 3rd overall which is great scoring around an extremely challenging layout.

This result saw Wes gaining selection in the Queensland Team and an opportunity to compete in the National Championships.

Caitlin also performed well coming in a tie for 10th place in the Girls Section.

Congratulations to all our representatives and we are proud of the manner in which you handled yourselves whilst not only representing yourselves, but Keperra Country Golf Club.
