2025 Club Championships

Last Sunday marked the conclusion of this year's Women's and Gents Club Championship, bringing to a close what has been an especially challenging period for both management and participants. The championship schedule was significantly affected by the persistent poor weather conditions that have plagued the region ever since Cyclone Alfred swept across the coast in early March.

Despite these disruptions, the club would like to extend its sincere appreciation and congratulations to all members for the patience, understanding, and good spirit demonstrated throughout this difficult period. The frequent need to reschedule was inevitable given the circumstances, and it was acknowledged early on that such changes might interfere with some Members' ability to fully participate in the event.

Nonetheless, the vast majority of Members responded with patience, cooperation, flexibility and their continued support was vital in ensuring the successful conclusion of the 2025 Championships.

Moving on to the final results.

In the Women's Championship Savanah Rains held a narrow 2 shot lead over defending Champion, Julie Lakotij, however in the end it was Julie who would prevail by the narrowest of margins, securing a 1 shot victory to take the title.

In the Gents Championship, 2023 and 2024 Champion, Wesley Hinton held the lead going into the final round with Cooper Field, Luke Brumpton and Chase Duffy all tied 9 shots adrift.  The gap would prove to be unassailable with Wesley posting another fine round of 70 winning by 8 shots from Ben Dowling, who fired a bogey free 4 under 67 to vault his way up to second. This win makes it 3 consecutive Club Championships, a feat which was last achieved by Club legend Peter Wardrop from 1973-75.

Once again the Club would like to thank Club Sponsor Jeffrey McConaghy for his continued support of this Club event.  Congratulations to all our winners across all grades.

Keperra Cup

Congratulations to Nick Garrett on winning this year's Keperra Cup with a score of 70 Nett.

Ladies Corner

The inaugural March Mingle was successfully held on 29 March.  Apparently no one counted, but about 40 people attended, which was amazing as the club was closed on the day due to one of the many bouts of bad weather we have had during the last couple of months.  Looking forward to the next one.  Watch this space.

Ladies Pennants

Weekday - The first match-up of the season vs Gailes at Oxley on an extraordinarily wet day was narrowly won by Keperra. 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses.  Next match is 2 May.

Weekend - After three rounds, Keperra is in 4th place, with one win, one tie and one loss.

Championships

I'm glad I haven't been involved in the multiple necessary re-scheduling of the Club Championships.  The final 2 rounds were finally played on the weekend of 26 and 27 April, with the course still being challengingly wet.

Congratulations go to Julie Lakotij and Savannah Rains, the Gross and Nett winners respectively.

Congratulations to Wes Hinton for his 3rd consecutive men's championship.

The 2nd and final round of the Ladies mid-week championships are scheduled for 6 May.  Please let there be fine weather for these!

Coming up in May

·         Lots of Pennants will be played in May

·         Qualifying for the Nell Harvey foursomes Matchplay.

British Open Par 3 Competition - 18/7

The Club is excited to announce that it will be hosting the Par 3 Competition with a slightly revised format for the dinner component of the event. Due to upcoming renovations impacting the use of the Function Room, a new plan is currently being developed. Members are encouraged to save the date for now, with further updates and booking details to be shared in the coming weeks.

Ladies Pennant

Friday Sapphire:

On Friday 2 May, the Sapphire Ladies Team completed their second match of the season.  They had a dominating 6.5 - 0.5 win over McLeod at Gailes (as pictured below).

The team is currently 2-0-0- for the season.  They tee off again this coming Friday 9 May at Indooroopilly GC.  Here's hoping they can keep the momentum going.

Sunday Yellow Diamond:

With a rain interrupted season, the Sunday Ladies Team have only played two matches.  They started the season strong with a win against Brisbane at Brisbane on 16 March.  The following week that narrowly went down to Royal Queensland 4-3 at McLeod Country Gold Club.  Unfortunately, the rain prohibited the ladies from playing at home on 30 March against McLeod which resulted in a tie.  Currently, the Weekend Ladies are 1-1-1.

The ladies have two games left in the season which recommences on Sunday 18 May at Royal Queensland against Oxley. Good luck ladies.

Ladies Captain 4BBB Stroke Matchplay

After a prolonged delay, the final of the Ladies Captain's Event was completed earlier in April . Despite challenging conditions on a rain-affected course, the match between Kathy Madden and Jackie Dowling and the pairing of Pam Lawrence and Jen Park went down to the wire. It was a closely contested battle, with Jen Park sinking a crucial 8-foot putt on the 18th to force extra holes. However, Kathy and Jackie secured victory on the 19th hole to claim the title.

Thank you to all players for your patience and cooperation in rescheduling the match following the previous weather-related cancellation.
