Weather Event
February proved a challenging month with significant periods of wet weather which collectively saw the Course closed for a week for some disjointed course renovations. Unfortunately the weather did result in the need for some structural repairs, the biggest of which was the 11th bridge which sustained considerable damage.
8th Wall update
Although the repairs to the 8th hole continues to be a frustrating process, The Club is pleased to share that Queensland Reconstruction Authority who are providing the funding via Sport and Recreation have advised that a construction contractor has been appointed. Pleasingly the Club has already had contact with this organisation and we remain hopeful that work will soon commence. The second part of these works include the full replacement of the 8th green that sits in the responsibility of the Club. Design plans (click below to view) are progressing well and we’ve attached some images of the likely solution. Please note the most significant change will be the removal of the front bunker that overtime has proven to be a contributor to the damage of the Green. It’s important to remember that this area will continue to be subject to flooding and that the philosophy around design are based on resilience.
Irrigation repairs
More recently we’ve seen an increase in irrigation failures with the most significant being on the approach to the 20th bridge, left of the 9th green, 14th fairway and the exit of the 8th bridge. Rectification of these issues is already underway. In the coming months, the Course Team will be undertaking drainage improvements on Fairway 22 and installing additional irrigation down the right side of the 24th Green.
9th Hole
Members may have noticed work being completed on the 9th hole, specifically the RHS of the fairway, 100m leading up to the green. This area presently has never has irrigation and historically has often presented poorly. The works programme included the installation of an additional 250m of irrigation line and sprinklers. The area has now been reinstated with new turf which has already improved the overall presentation of the hole. These works were completed internally and provided training and development opportunity for our apprentice staff.
