After a fun junior girls development series of clinics in Autumn last year, BDLGA has re-established a junior girls pennants series for 2026. This first iteration has a modest six teams playing over three rounds February-March. Notwithstanding, the opportunity to take part has been eagerly taken up by Keperra, Pacific, Wynnum-Virginia (teaming up), Meadowbrook, Royal Queensland, and a non-affiliated final team calling themselves the All Stars.
Keperra’s girls are school friends and club junior members Ella Gould, Bee Han, and Wilhelmina (Willa) Keyner. They are at Keperra every week with Tony Robertson in their Kelvin Grove State College golf strip, and now get the opportunity to represent the Club externally.
Round 1 was played at Pacific on Sunday 15 February. The girls played three-way ‘all versus all’ matchplay; each going up against a Meadowbrook and a Pacific player in their flight. Ella played off-the-stick and went down 3&2 and 1 Down in her matches. Bee and Willa played in handicaps-based matches: Bee with an excellent 5&4 win against her Meadowbrook opponent and squaring against the Pacific girl; Willa squaring against Meadowbrook and going down 3&2 against the Pacific girl. Importantly, they each had good spirits and fought hard.
Next round is 8 March hosted at RQ, and then the final round is 15 March at McLeod.
Thanks to our Ladies Captain Julie Lakotij for coordination and support, and Jacque Giles of BDLGA for leading this reinvigoration of junior girls pennants.
