8th Hole Rules Refresher

With the reopening of the 8th hole, we would like to take this opportunity to provide a refresher on a player’s relief options in relation to the greenside Red Penalty Areas located on both the left and right sides of the green.

Red Penalty Area – Additional Relief Option

When a player’s ball crosses into the Red Penalty Area between the marked Blue Lines, the player has the additional option of taking relief at the nearest designated drop zone (marked in blue) to the point where the ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area. This option is available regardless of whether the drop zone is nearer to the hole than the point of entry.

Players may alternatively choose to proceed under the standard penalty relief options, if preferred.

New Guard Rail Installation

With the reinstatement of the 8th green and retaining wall, a new guard rail has been installed.

  • If a player’s ball lies outside the penalty area and the guard rail interferes with the player’s stance or intended swing, relief may be taken under Rule 16.1 (Immovable Obstruction).
  • If a player’s ball lies within the penalty area, the player must proceed under the applicable penalty area relief options (Rule 8.6), under a one-stroke penalty.

Safety Notice

Members will also observe that a safety sign has been installed beyond the guard rail. Due to the extremely steep drop-off in this area, players must not proceed beyond the guard rail for their own safety.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we wish you an enjoyable round.
