During Wednesday’s Double A-rated monthly medal competition, Club Champion Wes Hinton shot an impressive 10 under par, 62, with just one bogey, to match the current Old Course record held by former member Scott Draper. This outstanding achievement underscores Wes’s skill and consistency as a golfer and sets him up for an exciting first round of this weekend’s Club Championships, and Keperra Bowl later in the month.
The 19 year old got off to a flying start, birdying the first two holes before recording his only bogey of the round on the par-3 4th. He was 1 under with 14 holes remaining and then birdied holes 5 and 9. On the back nine, widely regarded as the more challenging stretch, Wes produced a remarkable 7 under, showcasing his composure and precision.
Reflecting on the key moments, Wes shared:
“Eagled 11, hit a 5 iron from 174m into the wind to 15ft left, and made the downhill putt. On 14, hit a 3 wood past the bunker to 70m out, then hit a L wedge to 3 ft and tapped it in. This put me -5 through 5 on the back nine. On 17, hit a 6 iron from 176m to 11ft just left and made the downhill left-to-right birdie putt to get to -10, and -7 on the back nine.”
This exceptional round not only matches the course record but also reinforces Wes Hinton’s standing as one of the club’s premier golfers.
