The Keperra Country Golf Club is pleased to announce it will be hosting another QLD Special Olympics golfing event on the 14th of March. The event itself relies heavily on volunteers to ensure all participants can compete safely whilst having fun.
The Club is currently looking for approximately eight B grade players to partner a Special Olympics athlete in the 9 holes alternate shot format. In this format the athlete tees off on all holes and then it is alternate shot after that, i.e. the volunteer would play the second shot and so on. We also require approximately 12 scorers/rules monitors to help with basic rulings and maintain a positive pace of play.
To give Members an indication of how far their assistance goes for these athletes, the below email was received from a member of the Special Olympics support team following the Club’s last hosted event.
“On behalf of Special Olympics Queensland Golf, please convey to your committee, members and staff our sincere appreciation for hosting the Special Olympics Brisbane club 2020 golf tournament. It is very much valued the generosity, friendliness and inclusiveness that Keperra Golf and it’s volunteers offer to our athletes.
This year’s tournament turned out to be a wonderful success, we had 29 players of varying degrees of ability all supported by volunteers and families. This was our first competition since Covid, and our athletes were itching for competition out on the golf course.
Thank you once again for the club’s hospitality, generosity and the volunteers time. We look forward to returning to Keperra Golf Club soon.”
All that is required is a good sense of humour and patience. Members should know that each athlete will have their own carer provided so they need not worry about their health / well being.
Any members looking to volunteer for this very worthy cause are encouraged to contact KCGC Golf Shop Team Leader Peter Zealley on peterz@keperragolf.com.au
