Sam Potts Aces the 26th

Sam Potts Aces the 26th

The 26th on the West Course is not my favourite hole but it just might be now. I have a habit of always hitting under the trees on the left, so standing over the ball on the tee I said out loud a few times – don’t go left, don’t go left, don’t go left. I then hit a lovely straight drive and it looked good all the way. It was all going to go down to how it bounced as it was dry and firm, and with the pin position in line with the edge of left bunker we weren’t sure where it was going to end up but it continued straight on to the green. The guys in my group thought it could be a nice eagle opportunity but we had no idea how far it actually travelled through the green. The other guys all went down the right side of the green, so I was walking up the path on the left. As I am getting closer, I couldn’t see it so thought I might be long or perhaps it was behind the ridge of the bunker. I honestly thought I went long as I still couldn’t see it so I cheekily looked at the guys and walked back towards the hole, not thinking it would actually be in there and then WOW, what a shock when I saw the ball in the hole. I was absolutely buzzing and I couldn’t help but shout out “it’s in the hole, holy …beep…!!!!”.

I was absolutely buzzing for the rest of the day as I would never in my life think I would get a Hole-in-One on a Par 4 or an Albatross and I have just done both in the one shot, what an amazing feeling. I immediately put the ball in a different pocket of my bag so I wouldn’t use it or lose it during the round as that thing is getting mounted! I can’t wipe the smile off my face when I think about it and even though I didn’t have the greatest round, that is definitely a shot I will never forget!

Congratulations Sam on achieving perhaps the rarest of golfing achievements.
