11th February – Course Update

This Summer has been dominated by constant rain and storms, bringing many challenges in presenting the course in the best possible condition. We have well above average rainfall over the past two months, which has highlighted areas of the course where additional drainage could be beneficial. It has been encouraging to have a week of good weather, which has allowed some of the areas to be addressed. There have been additional drainage pits, surface works and associated pipework added to the 6th, 10th, 12th holes and some surface drainage works have started on the 19th. The bank on the 19th hole has been partially returfed, with further turf to be laid in this area and those areas just mentioned where drainage works has been undertaken.
The green renovations which took place early last week are progressing well, with encouraging growth on all putting surfaces. There is a further fertilizer application scheduled and some light dustings over the coming weeks. With favourable weather conditions and continued positive plant health, the greens should be in a position to commence some rolling early next month.
The 22nd hole is on track for opening the weekend commencing the 19th of February. The area around the existing artificial temporary tee will be re-turfed, completing all major works on this hole. Hazard markings have been updated prior to the reopening.
My team are enjoying the move into the new maintenance facility, which is nearing completion. The temporary housing at the rear of the clubhouse will be gradually dismantled over the coming weeks.
Good Golfing,
