Course Update 11th November

Course Update 11th November

We are now three weeks on from the major green and fairway renovations.  The greens on holes 1-18 are progressing as expected, with the greens on 19-27 now responding well after some unexpected intervention became necessary.  The sand quality delivered had a higher salt content than would normally be expected, resulting in the tifdwarf greens on holes 19-27 not respond as well as anticipated to the renovations.  The necessary rectification measured have been applied and these greens are expected to respond well over the coming weeks.  We are not the only course to be supplied sand with an elevated salt content, though fortunately the 328 greens (holes 1-18 & the 23rd green) have a greater salt tolerance and have been less effected.

This week my team have spent considerable time trimming and weeding bunkers to improve their general presentation. With all bunkers back in play it is imperative that players take the time to carefully rake the sand to a point that it is better than when they entered.  There is nothing more frustrating that investing time and money, only to have the first golfer not to rate a bunker undo much of the good work. It is also worth noting that the recent upgrade to the drainage of selected bunkers is now complete, members will notice that the sand will appear (and play) less dense.  Although this scenario is not ideal, adding fresh sand will always come with a period whereby the sand needs to settle.  Correct practices of raking bunkers will only assist this process.

Ladies Corner

Ladies Corner

October was a slow month for normal competition with the Keperra Bowl and then some of the course being closed for maintenance. But all worth it, as the course is looking wonderful.

We are gearing up for our closing day on November 29th.  This year the theme is “Circus,” with a circus ambrose game being played along with prizes for best dressed.

Just Better Care Brisbane North will be sponsoring the day with prizes for the winners.

We are holding our Annual Meeting on Closing Day, at 1:30 pm after lunch. It will be a good opportunity to discuss any changes that are being considered for the new year, and also to get everybody’s input.

Hope to see some great costumes on the day.

Sue Truckey

Lady President
