Captain – Course Note

Captain – Course Note

In recent weeks, there have been visual changes to the appearance & playability of several putting surfaces.  This situation is primarily attributed to the higher summer temperatures and the winter poa grass used to oversow the greens “burning off.”  It is important to note that this situation was expected & was detailed in communications earlier this year concerning the maintenance issues experienced with the greens.

In general terms, the poa oversow has been a success with much improved putting surfaces over winter/spring &, importantly, it provided the putting surface plant with protection through the colder months of the year.  Several spray programs were deferred to prolong the benefits of the poa winter grass, which has contributed to the emergence of foreign grass (weed).  With the poa now in full decline, a structured spray program has commenced addressing the weed.

An essential element of the green recovery plan was to get the greens healthy through winter and into the warmer growing months of the year, I can report this was the case.   The residual weak areas are now the focus of a modified maintenance plan that promotes plant growth.  An independent turf expert has been consulted & has endorsed the course of action being undertaken.

Although it is early days & several greens remain below the quality levels expected, I am pleased to report that plant growth & improvement is evident.

I would much prefer to be focusing on the good things that have occurred and exist with the course but fully understand the importance & relevance that green quality represents. Please be assured that I will be providing regular & concise updates on the greens throughout this period of recovery.

Kind regards,

Doug Tester

Club Captain

Further to the recent local community transmissions of COVID – the Club has made the decision that it will be reverting back to bunkers being played under the preferred lie rule, as the bunker rakes will be removed prior to tomorrow’s Competition (Wednesday 22nd).

At this point in time, a review will be undertaken prior to the 28th of January.

Holiday Season Note from President – Including use of Masks

Holiday Season Note from President – Including use of Masks

It’s that special time of year again to celebrate and enjoy the festive season,  and as we prepare for the break, we find ourselves again in unprecedented times with new COVID-19 rules and regulation changes at the forefront for all members and guests visiting Keperra Country Golf Club, and indeed our management and staff.

I am grateful and truly appreciate the hard work that has been done by our Employee Team to implement the Queensland Governments’ new COVID-19 rules and regulations which are applicable from December 17th.

Furthermore, there have been recent updates regarding the use of masks. On behalf of the Club, I wish to advise that anyone entering any part of the Clubhouse (indoors) is required to wear a mask.

It is of course not our management or staff making the new rules for those wishing to play golf or visit our club. However,  it is their responsibility to administer and ensure the Club remain compliant with the Queensland Government directives. This includes the well documented requirement for patrons to provide proof of vaccination .

I would sincerely trust that all members will acknowledge and respect the fact that our management and staff are only doing what is required by law in applying these new rules which at a minimum will ensure that all patrons will continue to be able to enjoy playing golf.

With this in mind, I would respectfully ask that we all take it upon ourselves to show consideration to all staff in this respect and help them make the process as comfortable and as smooth as possible for all concerned.

With that said, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

May your festive season and beyond be filled with good times, good cheer, good health, and good golfing.

Kind regards,

Rod Rhodes

Club President
