The Club will be holding its annual Composite Course Challenge to coincide with the final round of the 2021 US Masters.  At this stage the final round will be played at its traditional time which will conclude around 9:30am Brisbane Time.  The final round will be on the big screen in both the Club Bar and Function Room from 6am, with a hot breakfast served at 7:30am, before a shotgun start in motorised carts on the Club’s Composite Course (18 of the Course’s most challenging holes).

The Club has been fortunate enough to secure James Buttenshaw from Accelerate Communications as the event’s Major Sponsor.

Lunch will await the players on their return from the course and as always, the converted KCGC tweed jacket will be up for grabs for the player with the most Stableford points.  The Club will again be taking pre-orders for drinks and have them ready for all players as they leave the Clubhouse.  Those looking to pre-order drinks should email admin@keperragolf.com.au with their selections.

Ladies & Gents Club Championships 2021 – wrap up

Ladies & Gents Club Championships 2021 – wrap up

This year’s Club Championships not only saw players pitted against one another, but also having to deal with some significant challenges that mother nature threw up, most notably considerable rain.

After the 54-hole cut was made, there were 24 players left in each of the A, B & C Grade Gents, and top 12 in Ladies A, B & C grades contesting the final round on Sunday March 21st.

In the Ladies Championship Caitlin Vanderkruk (Top left) was able to defend her 2020 crown and once again become the Ladies Club Champion for 2021 shooting rounds of 82, 76, 79, 77 to finish with 314.  Runner up was Chrissy Booth with 346.

The Gents Championship was an extremely hard-fought affair with Scott Draper taking a 5 shot advantage over his brother Mark, into the final 18 holes. However, in the end it was Jarrod Mann (Top left) who would come through managing to get up and down on the 18th for par to secure a 2 shot victory over last year’s champion Jordan Rooke.

Alana Griffiths (Top right) was able to hold on to her overnight lead and take out the Ladies B Grade Championship for this year with Jan Stapleton coming in second.

The B Grade Gents saw a 3-way tie at the end of 72 holes which required a playoff to determine the winner. After holing out from the fringe on the 1st playoff hole, Lindsay Jordan (Middle left) came away with the victory after Chris McNamara and Warren Scott were unable to match his par.

The Ladies C Grade saw another tight tussle with Lyn Howarth (Middle middle) overcoming a 2-shot deficit and managing to overtake third round leader Glenda Sellwood, to win by 2 shots.

In the C Grade Gents Jason Moss (Middle right) secured a 3 shot victory over Bryan Hadden after shooting the best round in C Grade on the day.

In other results congratulation must go to the following winners:

Junior Champion – Wesley Hinton (Top middle)

Senior Champion – Mark Draper (Bottom left)

Veterans Champion – Lindsay Brown (Bottom right)

Ladies Veterans Champion – Lyn Leonard (Bottom middle)

March 19th – Course Update

March 19th – Course Update

It has been another week dominated by weather, with 40mm falling over the course to date. On Monday we had a major irrigation “Blow Out” resulting in staff being redeployed to repair this critical piece of infrastructure.  We had the water back on by Tuesday afternoon, however the pit on the 11th hole will remain open until the area dries out.  On a positive note, the course did not need any added watering over this period.

The team were able to complete the scheduled spraying program this week, with the remainder of the time spent reinstating as many bunkers as possible, and general maintenance mowing. Albeit a little damp, as at Friday afternoon the course is in good shape for the weekend, with the 22nd hole to be played to the green proper from the artificial tee and the 23rd hole played as a par 5.

Unfortunately, the 22nd hole project has been delayed another week with path works being postponed. In the coming week we are planning to groom and dust the greens on holes 1-18 on Monday, however weather will dictate many of the on course activities.

Fingers crossed that the Championships are able to be completed over the weekend!

Good luck to all those in contention.

Keith Johnson

Course Superintendent
