March 2nd Storm

March 2nd Storm

Late Tuesday afternoon, Keperra along with adjoining suburbs sustained strong winds and substantial rain fall (40mm in just 15 minutes).  The damage to the course while not severe was expansive, as depicted in the images below.  Following several inspections, the Course closed March 3rd allowing the maintenance team to make some significant headway, although their efforts were hindered by the lack of sunshine to dry out the course.  Volunteers joined the maintenance team today while the course remained closed. As a result, the Club will open from Noon on Friday (March 5th) and on behalf of the Club we would like to acknowledge and thank the small army of volunteers (42 to be precise) who greatly assisted maintenance staff during the clean up process.

For any member desperate for a hit of golf, our Corporate partners XGOLF Enoggera are open with their 5 bays.  KCGC Members receive an exclusive discount on bay hires.  To book, please contact them on 3157 6105.

Wednesday March 3rd / Course Closed

Wednesday March 3rd / Course Closed

Following this evening’s storm, an inspection has been conducted and unfortunately the course has sustained considerable flooding with substantial debris located throughout the playing surfaces. A decision had been made to close tomorrow (Wednesday March 3rd) as it would not be realistically achievable to present the course in a playable condition.

A further update will be provided in the next 24 hours.

Gents Club Championships / Day Players

Gents Club Championships / Day Players

As previously communicated, day play spots for the upcoming Gents Club Championships are due to be opened at 4pm today.  This year the Club has had an unprecedented response regarding play uptake, and at present there are currently no tee times available for day players.  Members wishing to play in the daily competition are encouraged to put their name down on the wait lists of the associated time sheets. As pull outs naturally occur in the lead up to each Saturdays, we expect some tee times to become available.

Special Olympics – Volunteers Required

Special Olympics – Volunteers Required

The Keperra Country Golf Club is pleased to announce it will be hosting another QLD Special Olympics golfing event on the 14th of March.  The event itself relies heavily on volunteers to ensure all participants can compete safely whilst having fun.

The Club is currently looking for approximately eight B grade players to partner a Special Olympics athlete in the 9 holes alternate shot format. In this format the athlete tees off on all holes and then it is alternate shot after that, i.e. the volunteer would play the second shot and so on. We also require approximately 12 scorers/rules monitors to help with basic rulings and maintain a positive pace of play.

To give Members an indication of how far their assistance goes for these athletes, the below email was received from a member of the Special Olympics support team following the Club’s last hosted event.

“On behalf of Special Olympics Queensland Golf, please convey to your committee, members and staff our sincere appreciation for hosting the Special Olympics Brisbane club 2020 golf tournament. It is very much valued the generosity, friendliness and inclusiveness that Keperra Golf and it’s volunteers offer to our athletes.

This year’s tournament turned out to be a wonderful success, we had 29 players of varying degrees of ability all supported by volunteers and families. This was our first competition since Covid, and our athletes were itching for competition out on the golf course.

Thank you once again for the club’s hospitality, generosity and the volunteers time.  We look forward to returning to Keperra Golf Club soon.”

All that is required is a good sense of humour and patience.  Members should know that each athlete will have their own carer provided so they need not worry about their health / well being.

Any members looking to volunteer for this very worthy cause are encouraged to contact KCGC Golf Shop Team Leader Peter Zealley on peterz@keperragolf.com.au
