30th April – Course Update

30th April – Course Update

The oversow of all 27 holes has been completed this week.

With a 4-day working week, the focus, outside of the oversow has been preparing the course for general play.  These works have again included bunker preparation, unfortunately, some heavy showers this afternoon and more rain likely over the weekend will see the playability of the bunkers impacted over the long weekend.

Over the coming weeks members will notice the green surrounds may become a little damp with an increased volume of water required to support the oversow process.  Once established the water will be eased off, though the greens will continue to require more water than we would typically give them over the winter period.

Good Golfing.

Ladies Matchplay Final Results 2021

Ladies Matchplay Final Results 2021

Today saw the culmination of the Ladies Matchplay Championships for 2021.

In the A Grade Final we saw Caitlin Vanderkruck looking to defend her title from 2020 against Chrissy Booth, both Ladies had impressive semi-final victories but after getting off to a rough start Chrissy was unable to peg back the deficit and Caitlin was able to claim back to back wins by securing a 4 & 3 victory.

B Grade had another defending champion making it through to the final with Jackie Dowling taking on Kristy James. In the end we crowned a new champion and Kirsty was able to prevail by the narrowest of margins taking the match 1up.

Lyn Howarth was looking to do the double and take out not only the C Grade Stroke Play but add the Matchplay title to her credit. Lyn was taking on relative newcomer Catrina Daly who had progressed nicely through the draw to reach the final. However in the end Lyn proved too strong taking a solid 5 & 4 victory.

Congratulations to all those who competed and especially the winners.

Green Report 23rd April

Green Report 23rd April

Dear Members,

Firstly, on behalf of the Club, we would like to acknowledge Anzac Day this Sunday. As you know, last year Anzac Day looked very different with no dawn services or parades to honour the fallen. Instead we stood at 6am on the front driveway with candles in their honour. It was special in a different way but just not the same. To all our members that have served, we say thank you and hope you get to spend time with your mates.

Further to our last communication on the state of the greens, we can confirm that the decision has been made to oversow all holes with Poa Trivialis.  Many options have been evaluated and considered in conjunction with the Clubs consulting Agronomist (GTS).  This decision has been made on the basis that it will provide the fastest short term recovery option for playability and provide support for plant health on all our greens going into winter.

We have not oversewn for 15 (plus) years. For those that remember, the major down side with the oversow is the 10 odd day period where limited/ no mowing of the greens occurs to allow the plant to strike. This downside is considered short term and is far outweighed by the medium term benefits we hope to gain coming into the colder period.

It is expected that the oversow of holes 1-18 will be completed Tuesday (27 April) & holes 19-27 Thursday (29 April).  The 10 day odd no mowing period will adversely affect course presentation. For those participating in the Gents Matchplay, you are now aware that the event has been pushed back 1 week accordingly.

We hope you enjoy your long weekend, get to a march, parade or other dawn or remembrance service and have time to enjoy this beautiful golfing weather.

Kind regards,

Luke Simpson – President                            Doug Tester – Captain
