Work commencing on Hole 8

Work commencing on Hole 8

We are pleased to confirm that the long-awaited work on Hole 8 will soon begin. Stage 1 of this important project involves replacing the retaining wall along the Kedron Brook side of the hole (the left side when playing the hole).

This project is being funded via the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) and the Department of Sport and Racing. The appointed project managers are RPS with the contractor IQ Construct.  The work is scheduled to commence on Monday, 3rd February, with the program being 16 weeks.

Following the completion of Stage 1, Stage 2 will commence. Stage 2 will include the complete rebuild of the Green 8 complex. It has also been decided that Green 7 will be replaced simultaneously.  The design for green 8 is displayed in the clubhouse, with the most notable change being the removal of greenside bunker.  Although the design includes flood protection, the risk of flooding remains.  It is anticipated that removing the bunkering will reduce future green damage, hasten reinstatement after such events and deliver economic savings.

Temporary Course Re-Configuration

As part of the upcoming work on Hole 8, the course configuration for Holes 1 to 9 will change starting 6 February 2025 (post programmed course renovation closure). Hole 8 will be removed from play, and two temporary holes, known as 5A and 5B, will be introduced to maintain the course’s flow.

  • Hole 5A: This will be a par 4 to a temporary green in front of the current fairway bunker on hole 5.
  • Hole 5B: A temporary tee will be created in the same area as the temporary green, and play will be to the current Green 5.

The hole indexes have been reviewed in consultation with Golf Australia, and the scratch and slope ratings have been adjusted to reflect these temporary changes. These updates ensure the course provides a fair and competitive experience for all players during construction.

The Club is finalising its operational plans for replacing Green 7 and will share further details with members as soon as they are confirmed.

These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing the golfing experience for all members and visitors.  We appreciate your patience and support as we undertake these significant upgrades to the course.

MiScore – Nearest the Pin Update

MiScore – Nearest the Pin Update

Following a successful trial period, we are excited to announce the introduction of the MiScore App for recording all Nearest the Pins (NTPs). Starting Wednesday, 5th February 2025, all NTPs will be recorded exclusively via the app.

This change brings several operational benefits, including improved efficiency, reduced risks, and a streamlined process for our competitions.

Why the Change?

  • Trial Success: Our trials demonstrated that using the MiScore App simplifies the process and enhances the overall competition experience.
  • No More Physical Markers: This eliminates the need for pin markers to be placed, collected, or maintained, reducing the risks of loss or theft.
  • Improved Efficiency: Speeds up the processing of competition results.
  • Streamlined Participation: Only one player per group needs to use the app to record NTP results.

Day-by-Day Adjustments

Here’s how NTPs will work across different competition days:

  • Monday:
    • Single-course competition.
    • No NTPs currently offered.
  • Tuesday:
    • Single-course competition.
    • NTPs offered on selected holes.
  • Wednesday:
    • Two-course competition:
      • All-Day Course: 4 NTP opportunities (previously 3), with prize pools distributed based on players in this field.
      • Afternoon-Only Course: 2 NTP opportunities (previously 3), with prize pools distributed based on players in this field.
  • Thursday:
    • Single-course competition.
    • NTPs offered on selected holes.
  • Saturday:
    • Three-course competition.
    • 4 NTP opportunities per course (12 total, previously 8). Prize amounts will adjust proportionally to accommodate the increased opportunities.
  • Sunday:
    • Two-course competition.
    • 2 NTP opportunities per course, with prize pools distributed evenly between fields.

Additional Notes for Members

  • Using the MiScore App:
    • Only one player per group needs to record NTP results in the app.
    • Groups without MiScore users will not be able to participate in NTPs.
  • Fairness and Transparency:
    • For multi-course competitions (e.g., Wednesdays), NTP opportunities and prize pools will be specific to each course. Afternoon-only players will compete within their smaller field.
  • Connectivity Assurance:
    • The MiScore App has demonstrated reliable performance, with no significant connectivity issues anticipated.

When Will This Start?

These changes will come into effect for all competitions beginning Wednesday, 5th February 2025.

We appreciate your support in this transition and believe these changes will enhance your competition experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the Golf Operations team.
