Gents A,B & C Grade Matchplay Finals Results

Gents Matchplay Finals – 2025

The Gents A, B & C Grade Matchplay Finals were held in testing wet conditions, delivering some outstanding golf and sportsmanship across all grades.

A Grade Final

The A Grade final featured a compelling matchup between 4th seed Ben Dowling and 10th seed Matt Simmons. In what proved to be a tightly contested battle, Ben gained momentum after a superb approach to 12 feet on the 8th hole (17th overall), which he converted for birdie. This marked the beginning of a dominant stretch, with further birdies on holes 10, 11, and 12 (19, 20, and 21). When Matt was unable to convert his par putt on the 13th (22nd hole), Ben claimed victory and secured his first A Grade Matchplay title. The match was played in excellent spirit, with both players showing mutual encouragement and respect throughout.

B Grade Final

The B Grade title was contested between top qualifier Troy Redell and 14th seed Geoff Lavin. Troy entered the final in strong form, having defeated his semi-final opponent 8 & 7. Geoff had also impressed, defeating the 7th seed 2 & 1 in his semi-final. In a hard-fought final, Geoff made Troy earn every hole, but Troy ultimately prevailed, completing a remarkable double by adding the Matchplay title to his B Grade Stroke Play Championship win. (tied)

C Grade Final

In the C Grade final, Barry Miller faced Frank Keane. Barry had reached the final after a tense semi-final that required extra holes, securing victory on the 19th. Frank earned his place in the final by defeating the top seed in his semi-final. In the championship match, Barry delivered a composed performance to claim the title with a 3 & 2 win.

Congratulations to all players who participated in this Honour Board Event, and in particular to our 2025 Gents Matchplay Champions on their well-earned victories.

Ladies Pennant – 2025 Wrap Up

Ladies Pennant – 2025 Wrap Up

On Sunday May 24th, the Weekend Pennant team concluded their season at Oxley Golf Club (see below photo).

Jemma Leonard secured a commanding 6/5 victory in her first match. Savannah Reins continued her dominant season, finishing undefeated with a 3/2 win. Despite not playing the final match, congratulations also to Angela Gordon who was unbeaten. There were some tight results although not enough on the day, finishing with a 5-2 loss. Overall, a rain-interrupted, and extended draw left the team finishing in fourth place. Royal Queensland emerged victorious, securing the pennant by a mere half point over Nudgee.

On Friday (May 30th), the Midweek Pennants team concluded their season at Ashgrove Golf Club. They finished on a high note, securing a 4-3 win against Indooroopilly. For the season, they finished in third place, narrowly behind Ashgrove, who defeated Brisbane Golf Club. Congratulations to Gillian Di Corleto for an exceptional and undefeated season.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the players for their dedication and hard work. We also want to express our gratitude to our caddies for their unwavering support and time commitment to the teams. A special thank you goes to the Captains, Julie Lakotij (Weekend) and Michelle Lavin, for their exceptional leadership and guidance. Finally, thank you to Phil Wuersching from Jim’s Test & Tag for sponsoring the Club’s Pennant side for the last 2 years

Mel Robertson

Ladies Pennant Team Captain

Multi Tee Option in Club Competitions

Multi Tee Option in Club Competitions

Late last year, the Club commenced a trial offering male Members the option to play from forward tees during the Wednesday Medley Competitions. This initiative has been positively received, with approximately 10% of participants on average electing to play from the forward tees.

Following the success of the trial, the Club is pleased to announce the extension of this multi-tee option to additional competitions held on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This will come into effect from Sunday June 1st.

At present, the multi-tee option is limited to male Members, as current course infrastructure does not yet support a viable forward tee alternative for female Members. However, with the recent construction of new tee blocks, we are confident that updated course ratings will allow us to expand this offering to both male and female Members in the future.

We encourage those who may find the course increasingly challenging to consider this alternative as a means of enjoying a more manageable and less demanding round, while continuing to compete in the same competition field.

All tee blocks will be integrated into a single competition draw. Members seeking a less strenuous round are welcome to select the shorter tee position, whilst still competing in the field.

Important Update on Registration Process for Forward Tee Participants:

For Members choosing to play from forward tees, a revised registration process will apply:

  • All players will initially be registered in their respective competitions based on the Blue Tee setup, and daily handicaps will be calculated accordingly.
  • Members wishing to play from forward tees must notify the Golf Shop upon check-in. Staff will then adjust the player’s daily handicap to reflect the change in tee position.
  • Please note that moving forward to a shorter tee will result in a reduction to your daily handicap to ensure competitive equity with those playing from the Blue tees.

We thank all Members for their continued support and look forward to your participation in this expanded initiative.
