Board Update

Board Update

Nominations for the Board will soon open with the following key dates:

  • Nominations Open: Wednesday 4th October 2023
  • Nominations Close: Wednesday 1st November 2023 (5:00pm)
  • Ballot Open: Wednesday 8th November 2023
  • Ballot Closes: Monday 27th November 2023 (6:00pm)
  • AGM: Wednesday 29th November 2023 (6:00pm)

The following Board roles will be up for election:

  • President              (2-year term)
  • Vice-Captain         (2-year term)
  • Treasurer              (2-year term)
  • Director (2) roles   (2 x 2-year term)

As in previous years, I thought it prudent to provide an update on the renewal intentions of the current Board.

Serving as President of this Club is truly a privilege, and I am incredibly proud of the board’s achievements over the past 12/24 months.  Importantly, strong financial outcomes will again be reported this year, including delivering upon key strategic objectives, with the most significant being the improved practice facilities and the short course.  It is my intention to renominate for a further 2-year term, which will see out my allowable tenure as President of this great club.  With the support of the membership, it is envisaged that over the next two years, we will see the Constitution reviewed and modernised.  This important project will require the membership to carefully consider the club’s governance framework and what changes might be necessary to ensure it continues operating at its best.

Over this period, we will also see the redesign and construction of the 8th hole and some much-needed capital investment in the clubhouse, car park and member facilities.  I am also committed to ensuring the club remains profitable and that the course maintenance budget continues at the higher levels introduced 18 months ago.  Sustained commitment to this budget will ensure the evident benefits are further leveraged.

Captain Doug Tester will finish his tenure next year after serving four years in this position.  It is anticipated that Vice-Captain Greg Marshall will be nominated for the role of Captain in 2024.  Greg has served on the board for the past six years and, more recently (three years), as Vice-Captain.  This year, he will again be renominating for the Vice-Captain position, with a likely renewal opportunity in this role next year. Greg is a Course & Match Committee member and was actively involved in the Maintenance Shed replacement and Practice Fairway projects.

Paul Morris intends to re-nominate for Treasurer, a position he has held for the past 12 months.  He has sat on the Finance & Audit Committee for the past four years, and more recently, he has overseen the development of the club’s 10-year capex and cash flow plan.  He has an extensive finance and governance background and is a Partner in the Real Estate Division of KPMG.

Incumbent Director/s Matthew Dowling and Darryl Hine have indicated their intentions to re-nominate for a directorship.  Matthew is presently a Finance & Audit Committee member, and his golfing credentials are a valuable resource. Darryl is a Course & Match Committee member and has been a director for the past two years. Both candidates have the full support of the incumbent board.

The board regularly reviews its composition and capabilities against its strategic objectives and the desired competencies detailed in the club’s board skills matrix.   It also has an active succession planning strategy that promotes director renewal, which fosters “fresh ideas”.  Although all incumbent Directors will be seeking re-appointment this year, it is envisaged that unfilled openings will exist next year.   It is important to note that the re-nomination of incumbent director/s does not restrict anyone from nominating for a role.

I encourage anyone considering nominating for a board role, whether it be an immediate or future desire, to reach out, as I am happy to discuss any questions that you might have.

Best wishes,

Rod Rhodes

President
