2023 Keperra Bowl

2023 Keperra Bowl

The Tangalooma Island Resort Keperra Bowl is a major event for the club and the logistical operations attached would not be possible without the assistance and co-operation of club members. The 2023 Bowl will be staged between Monday 9th to Friday 13th October and this year will be the 19th year the club has staged this prestigious tournament.

The Bowl provides the club with an excellent opportunity to showcase the course, the overall facilities of the club and importantly the welcoming culture that Keperra possesses. The Board would like to thank all members for their support of the tournament and the facility access sacrifices that are made throughout the 5 days of the event.  Furthermore, the Board would also like to acknowledge those members who have volunteered to aid in the running of the event.

For any member looking to volunteer and assist in the running of the event, please email the Club via admin@keperragolf.com.au.  Members are encouraged to take advantage of their privileged position and catch the action live and free of charge throughout the week.

Play will still be available on holes 19 to 27 for the full duration of the event. All Clubhouse access and general member services will remain unchanged throughout the week of the tournament.

Finally, the Club would like to thanks its Principal Sponsor Tangalooma Island Resort for its ongoing support of this event.

Course News

Course News

Over the past month the Course team have focused on removing non-native trees (weed species) adjacent to fairways and various waterways throughout the course.  The task is assisting airflow and sunlight which greatly assist the turf health and is also opening up and highlighting many picturesque areas of the course.

An extensive spray program to eradicate weeds on the green surrounds and fairways is in progress and the benefits will be evident come summer.  Much of this work occurs after hours and I would like to recognise the Club’s Spray Technician Stuart Waldock for his hard work and commitment to this task.

The 8th Hole Project Managers RPS, have advised that the tender for the design and construction of the ‘new’ retaining wall will occur this month.  It is anticipated that a Contractor will be appointed in October and with some luck a works program will closely follow.  As most would be aware the repairs to the 8th green surface were only ever temporary and the longer than expected process to have the green replaced has put these repairs under pressure.  In an effort to ‘nurse’ this green through to its reconstruction, the use of a temporary green on hole 5 has commenced.  It is anticipated that the temporary green will be used two or three days per week.  The changes will see hole 5 become a Par 4 to the temporary green & the creation of a hole 5A as a short par three to the traditional green 5.  The Golf Operations have had the revised format rated by Golf Australia to allow the layout use in competitions where needed.

Although water storage levels remain sound & the irrigated playing surfaces are healthy some rain would be extremely helpful.  Presently it is easy to see the parts of the course that are not irrigated.

Keperra’s own Mikayla Dyal has had a stellar fortnight on tour as she looks to hone her game ahead of next months Keperra Bowl.  Mikayla won the Yeerongpilly Cup held at Brisbane Golf Club on Sunday with a 76, and in late august won the Northern Territory Classic held at the Darwin Golf Club, beating her closest rival by 8 shots (click here to read more on Mikayla’s victory in the NT).  On behalf of the Club we wish Mikayla every success as her golfing career progresses.
