Update – Personal Liability Insurance

Update – Personal Liability Insurance

We’re pleased to inform you of an important update regarding your Players Personal Liability Insurance coverage, a key benefit provided through your club’s affiliation with Golf Australia.

As communicated in December 2024 and July 2025, Golf Australia has completed a comprehensive review of the policy and the associated claims process. We are now pleased to announce the successful appointment of new partners to manage the program from 1 October 2025.

New Insurance Provider & Claims Handler

From 1 October 2025, the Players Personal Liability Insurance Policy will be underwritten by HDI Global SE, Australia, with DXC appointed as the dedicated claims handler. This change follows the conclusion of the current arrangement with Sportscover.

HDI is a globally recognised insurer with strong credentials in the Australian market, and DXC brings extensive experience in claims management, offering enhanced service and faster support for members.

This transition ensures no change to the coverage you receive, and significantly improves the efficiency of the claims process.

Why the Change Was Made

As outlined in July, Golf Australia—together with our insurance broker Marsh—conducted a global market review to identify a provider capable of improving the member experience while maintaining robust policy coverage.

This review was undertaken with a clear objective:

  • To enhance the claims process
  • To safeguard long-term affordability and access to this valuable protection for all affiliated club members

With over 450,000 affiliated golfers nationwide, Golf Australia’s group policy remains one of the most comprehensive and cost-effective solutions available.

What this means for Members

  • Policy Coverage: The existing policy terms will transfer to the new provider. As a reminder, the following outlines how the policy will continue to operate in practice:
    • Personal Injury Claims – Typically, this is where an affiliated golf club member hits a golf ball that causes injury to another person. For these claims, no excess applies.
    • Property Damage Claims – Typically, this is where an affiliated golf club member hits a golf ball that causes damage to a neighbouring property or motor vehicle.  For these claims, a $1,000 excess applies.
    • Exclusions – The policy excludes any claim in connection with third party property damage to Golf Carts and Personal Electronic Devices. Typically, this is where an affiliated golf club member collides into another golf cart or causes damage to another person’s Electronic Device.  Please note, if a member collides into a person causing personal injury or other property while in a golf cart (e.g. Car), then this would be covered.
  • Claims Process: All claims will now be able to be submitted via a digital form allowing for simplified process for both clubs and members, and faster response times to member claims with a professional dedicated claims team who understand the needs of our members.  Any claims which may be inadvertently submitted by a club to the old provider, Sportscover, after October 1 will be forwarded to the new provider.
  • Continuity of Cover: There will be no interruption to coverage for affiliated golf club members during this transition to the new provider.

Policy Dates and Documentation

  • Policy period:
    1 October 2025 – 1 October 2026
  • Full documentation, including the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), Certificate of Currency, and FAQs, will be shared with clubs in the coming weeks and made available on the Golf Australia website.

A Reminder on the Importance of this Policy

Golf Australia has offered this liability insurance as a core member benefit since 2009, following a landmark legal case from 1994 involving serious injury at a Queensland golf course.

This group policy provides up to $20 million in cover for personal injury or property damage caused by affiliated members during a round or practice session.

Importantly, this insurance:

  • Is available only to members of affiliated golf clubs
  • Does not apply to green fee or non-member players

By leveraging the scale of our national golf community, we continue to provide a high-quality insurance product that protects individuals from the potentially significant financial consequences of legal action.

Next Steps

You don’t need to do anything at this time. Your cover continues automatically from 1 October 2025.  Keperra is awaiting further updates from GA and access to the relevant documents which are expected shortly. For further information please visit the Golf Australia website or click here to access the FAQ provided by GA.

Board Update

Board Update

Nominations for the Board will soon open with the following key dates:

  1. Nominations Open: Wednesday 1st October 2025
  2. Nominations Close: Wednesday 29th October 2025
  3. Ballot Opens: Wednesday 5th November 2025
  4. Ballot Closes: Monday 24th November 2025 (6:00 pm)
  5. AGM: Wednesday 26th November 2025 (6:00 pm)

The following Board roles will be up for election:

  1. President – 2-year term
  2. Vice-President – 1-year term
  3. Vice-Captain – 2-year term
  4. Treasurer – 2-year term
  5. Director (x2) – 2-year terms

As in previous years, I believe it is prudent to provide an update on the current Board’s renewal intentions.

As part of our governance function, we have a robust succession plan in place to ensure continuity and stability. This year, my term as President will come to an end, and I will be stepping down from the Board. With unanimous Board support, I am pleased to announce that Vice-President Doug Tester will nominate for the role of President for the two-year term. His leadership has been exemplary—particularly during his time as Club Captain—and the Board is confident in his ability to succeed in the role.

The proposal is that Matt Dowling will nominate for Vice-President, which will leave his Director role vacant. Helen Blanchfield has served as Vice-Captain for the past year and will also nominate for re-election to that role for the next two-year term.

Treasurer Paul Morris has confirmed that he will nominate to continue as Treasurer. Paul has been instrumental in overseeing the Club’s accounts and in developing the Club’s 10-year CAPEX plan.

Director Phillip Carrington has informed the Board and myself that he will not be nominating to continue as a Director. Therefore, this role will become vacant. Phil has told the Board that he feels he can no longer give 100% commitment and will vacate his role effective from the AGM.

With my tenure now coming to an end after 13 years of service on the Board, I believe we have seen many positive changes for the Club and its members over those years, including:

  1. The 2014 Constitution review, which reduced the number of Directors from 12 to 9—a prudent decision given the Club’s progress in recent years.
  2. The stance I took as Captain to improve fairways and increase the budget for course maintenance, resulting in continuing improvements to the course overall.
  3. A role in bringing to fruition and overseeing the construction of the new Greens Shed, as well as the current Clubhouse renovations.

As I step down, I thank all Board members I have served with over the years for their efforts and support. I leave the role happy and confident in handing over to Doug and his Board of Directors, as they continue the commitment to ensure the Club remains financially stable and successful into the future.

As I shared last year, the Board regularly reviews its composition and capabilities against its strategic objectives and the competencies outlined in the Club’s Board Skills Matrix. It also maintains an active succession planning strategy that promotes director renewal and fosters fresh ideas.

This year, there are two Director roles to be filled. It has been identified that ideal candidates would have experience or credentials in legal, commercial/government relations, or hospitality. It’s important to note that the re-nomination of incumbent Directors does not restrict any other members from nominating for any vacant roles.

I encourage anyone considering nominating for a Board role—whether it be an immediate or future aspiration—to reach out. I’m happy to discuss any questions you might have.

From a commercial perspective, I am pleased to report that the Club will once again report strong financial outcomes and has maintained its commitment to investing in the course through both operational and capital improvements. This increased investment began in 2022, and the benefits are now becoming evident.

Looking forward

The review of the Constitution is well advanced. After member consultation, it is planned to be issued to the membership for a vote in early 2026. This vital project will require members to carefully consider the Club’s governance framework and any necessary changes to ensure the Club continues to operate at its best.

The Club’s Strategic Plan also requires renewal—a significant and essential task for the coming year.

As with every year, much is planned and happening, making it an exciting time to be a Club member.

Kind regards,
Rod Rhodes
Club President
